Visiting Faculty/Scholars

If you are a faculty/student at an University/Institution or a researcher at a laboratory and wish to visit Indian Institute of Science. Please contact the concerned faculty member or Chair of the Department and we will assist you to obtain an appropriate invitation letter.

Several visiting fellowships are also available under bilateral programmes with US. For more information, please click IUSSTF


Short-term Visiting Faculty/Scholar

If the stay is for a short period of less than 6 months in order to deliver lectures, attend conferences/workshops or research collaboration.s


Long-term Visiting Faculty/Scholar

If the stay is for a long period, greater than 6 months for a sabbatical or for research collaboration.

Visiting Chairs

Aditya Birla
Council in its meeting held on 23rd June 2001 approved the institution of Aditya Birla Chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Institute.

The Chair was instituted by the Indian Aluminium Company, Calcutta, by contributing `30/- lakhs as corpus for the said purpose.  The Chair would be offered to an eminent Scientist/Researcher/Technologist of internal recognition/reputation from within the country or abroad.  The incumbent of the chair is expected to interact with Aluminium industries in India to promote Industry-Institute interaction and promote relevant research at the Institute relating to Aluminium.

Currently, the Chair carries with it an honorarium ranging from ` 1.5 to 2.0 lakhs p.m. (fixed) besides Business Class return airfare  ORtwo Economy Class airfare.  Guest House accommodation on payment basis.

Brahm Prakash
Prof. BrahmPrakash Chair  Was instituted during 1989 with a corpus of `10.00 lakhs.  This chair was created in the memory of late Prof. BrahmPrakash, who served as the Chairman of the Department of Metallurgy at the Institute and also made major contributions to India’s atomic energy and space programmes.

Currently, the Chair carries with it an honorarium ranging from ` 1.5 to 2.0 lakhs p.m. (fixed) besides Business Class return airfare  ORtwo Economy Class airfare.  Guest House accommodation on payment basis.

Prof. Satish Dhawan
Established during 1996 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the field of Engineering Science, which has relevance to Space Science & Technology.

Currently, the Chair carries with it an honorarium ranging from ` 1.5 to 2.0 lakhs p.m. (fixed) besides Business Class return airfare  ORtwo Economy Class airfare.  The duration of the chair ranges from 1-3 months.
Corpus given for institution of two chairs – One visiting Chair and other for IISc. faculty.

Pratt & Whitney in Gas Turbine Engineering
This chair was instituted by M/s. United Technologies Corporation, Pratt & Whitney Division in July 2008 with an endowment of 1.5 lakh US $ (equivalent to Rs. 63,93,579) in the Department of Aerospace Engineering to strengthen the Gas Turbine Research initiative.  Currently, the offer will be made for period of one-two months.
Currently, the Chair carries with it an honorarium ranging from ` 1.5 to 2.0 lakhs p.m. (fixed) besides Business Class return airfare OR two Economy Class airfare.  Guest House accommodation on payment basis.

DST-IISc Centenary Chair Professorship
The Professorship will be valid for 2 years from the date of first visit by the Professor (Professor is expected to spend normally a minimum period of two months).  The IISc-DST Centenary Chair Professor will interact with the faculty and students of the Institute, forge enhanced levels of research collaboration and streamline growth of new areas of research at the Institute.

Shorter visits of about one month will be decided on mutually agreed terms between the Institute and the Professor.
Honararium: Rs. 2.0 lakhs p.m.
Travel Support: Business Class return airfare OR two Economy Class airfare

Infosys Visiting Chair
The Infosys Foundation has endowed Visiting Professorships in Mathematics and Physics at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The purpose of these Professorships is to bring distinguished scientists in the broad areas of Physical and Mathematical Sciences to the IISc campus for collaborative research interactions. Visiting Professors are expected to spend a total of one year at IISc; visits can be spread out over a period of 4 years. The remuneration package for these Visiting Professorships is internationally competitive. If you are interested in this Professorship, please contact a faculty member at IISc who will then take the process forward.
